Jagannath District
(adapted from Melbourne Times #2)

Worlds (Arthabaska | Indra | Maharashtra | Rajasthan | Adamawa | Rudra) | Map | Commerce

The Jagannath district contains 40 worlds.  The highest population worlds are Rajasthan at 500 million and Indra at 300 million.  Other principal worlds in Jagannath are Arthabaska, Maharashtra, Agni, Adamawa (Andaman) and Rudra.

Eight worlds in the district are members of the Rajasthani Confederacy, including its capital, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra and Rudra.  Another eight worlds are members of the Federation of Nyanza to rimward in Nyanza Distric, including Agni and Adamawa.  (Adamawa is also claimed by the Rajasthani Confederacy, which refers to it as Andaman.)  Three worlds are members of the Commonwealth of Earth to core-trail-nadirward.

Indra and Arthabaska are major independent worlds in Jagannath.  Indra enjoys broad influence throughout the district.  In fact the high tech accomplishment at the Rajasthani world Rudra is a result of Indran influence.

Jagannath is one of the core districts surrounding Earth.  (Earth is just one parsec to core-trail-nadirward of hex-prism 1621.18.)  The Commonwealth of Earth enjoys good relations with the Rajasthani Confederacy.  Relations between Rajasthan and the Federation of Nyanza are more strained.

[ξ] Corresponds to system "Lalande 25372" at position "0627+04" in StarForce.
[ο] Corresponds to the Kingsland and Botany Bay systems in 2300 AD.
[π] Corresponds to the Ellis system in 2300 AD.
[ρ] Corresponds to the Red Speck system in 2300 AD and to system "BD+45 [2505]" at position "1734+14" in StarForce.
[σ] Corresponds to system "36 Ophiuchi [A&B]" at position "1636-08" and system "CD-26 [12036]" (36 Ophiuchi C) at position "1637-08" in StarForce.  (In StarForce, the "36 Ophiuchi [A&B]" system has one or more planets which did not "require 'terraforming' before colonization.")
[τ] Corresponds to the New Melbourne system in 2300 AD.

Rajasthan is located in the central spinward-upward portion of Jagannath, just one parsec downward from Boötes District.
Rajasthan has higher than standard surface gravity (1.3G) and a correspondingly dense atmosphere that can only be breathed with a respirator.  Its native biosphere has produced advanced fauna.  (The dense atmosphere has made it difficult to introduce advanced fauna from off-world.)  Rajasthan's population is in the hundreds of millions and its social authority is a democratic oligarchy.  Rajasthan has late interstellar stage technological achievement, the most sophisticated in Jagannath.
Commercial activities at Rajasthan include agricultural production and processing, communications and financial services, manufacturing, and interstellar shipping.
The Rajasthan system has four stars.  The primary, Brahma, is a yellow dwarf (G1V) which Rajasthan orbits in its habitable zone.  A binary pair, Vishnu and Shiva, both also yellow dwarfs (G2V and G2V), are in a far orbit about Brahma.  The fourth star, Yama, a red dwarf (M0V), is not actually part of the system gravitationally but is close enough to have been visited by sublight starships and for small settlements to have been established on its worlds.
